Senior”™s month celebrating the art of living

Older Ontarians practice The Art of Living every day. “They’ve worked hard and continue to contribute much to the prosperity we all enjoy today,” says East Wellington Community Services senior services manager Sherri Plourde.

“Ontario is home to 1.9 million seniors. Over the next 25 years, it is expected that those numbers will more than double.” EWCS continues to help seniors stay active and engaged in all aspects of their communities through volunteer opportunities, the active adult day trips and recreation programs and the adult day program.

To celebrate senior’s  month, the EWCS senior’s program will host three free seminars in June.  All seminars will take place at the Senior’s Centre in Centre 2000 Erin (14 Boland Drive). For those in the Rockwood area, transportation will be provided for $2 per person for each seminar (round trip to and from Rockwood. There must be a minimum of 10 riders for the transportation to run). To register for any of the seminars noted, contact Sherri at 519-833-9696:

– June 5 from 2pm-4pm:  Product and service demonstrations with Help Call. Help Call is an easy to use personal emergency response service that ensures rapid assistance in seniors home whenever they need it, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

– June 12 from 2pm -4pm: Join the conversation about diabetes. East Wellington Family Health Team dietician Pat White will be speaking about different reactions diabetics can face throughout the day and provide a food demonstration that will help you prevent lows in the day time and evenings.

– June 19, 2pm-3pm: Mobility Items and Related Financial Assistance – The Medical Care Store will speak about their mobility items – wheelchairs, custom orthotics, compression stockings, walkers and more – and how to apply for government funding to help offset the costs of these items.
